Thanks for the discussion of my post on the newbie experience! I just wanted to clarify a couple of things:
1. Print-a-loooshun (like “revolution”, but with “print”)
2. The screenshot you were talking about was from the “Orientation Island Public” (not the Printalution Orientation), which, as you mentioned, preserves the old Orientation Island experience. So if you want, you can go back there and try the tutorial again (and apparently people do, judging by the number of avatars I found when I went there to take a screenshot earlier this week).
What I was trying to explore was whether by presenting a shiny, realistic environment in your orientation space, you end up distracting the user away from what you want them to see. Maybe it would be better to start them of in bare-bones area, where the only colors are there to highlight where you want the user’s attention?
