Rezzed and Confused – 26 – Edumicashun

Don’t you love it when people rebrand convincing you to think like they do by hiding certain negative facts and lauding other positive ones as ‘educating’ you? Seemed to me it was usually from people who had a personal stake in the outcome. Of course the whole point was to make it seem like your decision. What was that other word for it? I forget what it was. Oh that’s right. We called it propaganda.

this is a perfect explanation of it all. i’ll be distributing the url for this as much as i can. i think i’ll put it in my profile.

  2. Crap Mariner says:

When I saw who was in the audience of the last panel discussion and started checking profiles, more appearing over the course of the hour, I thought it best to depart from the scene.

Especially Fatty Kidd. I’m surprised that account still exists.

Time to uninstall Emerald and look at Imprudence.

  3. Prokofy Neva says:

I’ve been saying this for the last three months. Why do you think it’s discredited? Because it comes from me? Well that only discredits *you*. I’ve been speaking the truth about this viewer for months.

I had no previous exposure to any of these people nor any beef with them originally. I went to look at the youtube by LordGregGreg Back, and I instantly saw something I didn’t like: the propagandistic tone meant to disguise what was the spirit of the viewer, which nonetheless came through — a viewer many by anonymous people with sketchy histories who insisted on having privacy and security for themselves, even as they inflicted insecurity and lack of privacy on others.

The essence of the viewer is just that: immoral people demanding protections from themselves which they take from others.

So I made a list of these “features” like the fact that you can make your avatar invisible and be annoying with it; like the fact that you can strip away somebody’s “hide me online” status and see them anyway; like the fact that you can find out who is de-friending you. And while claiming that it is “impossible” to stop copyright theft, putting in something that claimed to protect at least some kinds of texture theft.

For putting up that post, which was legitimate, normal, and needed, I was subjected to a deluge of hatred and griefing. These people invaded my lands, harassed me and my tenants, killed chickens, which in fact is destruction of property and not something you can laugh at forever if you want a world where property is protected from thugs. They blasted particles, rezzed prims, shouted memes, came around in gagns, etc. etc.

And these aren’t just users or fans, *these were the main developers themselves*. Discrete Dreamscape and Lonely Firebird and others all carefully documented on my blog.

Then I dug deeper and I saw Discrete Dreamscape had put up the copybot patch cynically and provocatively on the JIRA, was applaused by the usual extremists and copyleftist extropians like Morgaine Dinova for that, and FINALLY months later, the patch was taken down. In fact Rob Linden, who tolerated this blatant cynicism about copyright theft later himself left the lab, and in fact many believe it was due to the Lindens finally saying “enough is enough” with this opensource extremism that cynically promotes and condones copyright theft tools under the phony guise that they are “for personal use”.

I dug even further and I began to see that all these people had very new accounts — from August to October, some only days old. Discrete Dreamscrape got permabanned from SL — and it’s unlikely that happened merely because he helped Lonely Firebird kill my tenants’ chickens, the laissez faire liberal lenient Lindens would have had to have more to go on.

I then saw others disappear from the People list like Escaped Phelan (what a name, eH) and others.

Next, I saw these thugs who remain take up common cause with Woodbury University, as if in fact they’d always been friends. Fractured Crystal, the main flogger of Emerald from the devs’ list and manager of the island, let the Woodbury griefers all in as tenants on the first round of his sandbox. After their land was seized in the great repo of Ancapistan, he seems to have unloaded them or they left on their own and he instantly found a list of other tenants. Yet now the goons have put up a giant Emerald Viewer stand on the grief-parcel that the goons bought at extortionist prices on Ravenglass from an oldbie in order to harass me constantly.

I then noticed that all the people coming to this grief-build were the usual mix of Jesse grief profiteers, Woodbury regulars and brand-new alts (many of whom would last less than a day before getting banned for sim crashing or whatever), and Herald enablers like Pixeleen Mistral. Two brand-new Woodbury alts, one of who is definitely Tizzers because the other, Wut Moorlord, called this alt, Joanna Falmer, by that name when he slipped up, go around with giant Emerald Viewer ads on their heads and hang out the most on the grief-build in Ravenglass. Emerald even goes so far as putting Tizzers on the stand in a talk show to promote the viewer?! Are you nuts?

Why does this take so long for everybody to see? The viewer is created, promoted and violently and aggressively imposed on the Second Life experience with a hidden agenda. That agenda is to scrape data, steal content, harass critics and generally make havoc of SL. it’s also to make a point that people in a free development group accomplish more than Linden Lab. But that’s easy to do when you are putting in features that the Lindens often do workarounds to prevent from being harassing, like the privacy de-enabler. And it’s easy to do when you don’t have to have a thought in your head about the impact on the data base or on the average users’ FPS, like the multiple attachments.

When you see people use violence to stop criticism and to distract from very shady origins, you know you have trouble. And yet people like Crap Mariner have described my persistent documentation of Woodbury griefing and griefing from their enablers like Pixeleen Mistral or Intlibber Brautigan as “he said/she said” and people laugh at me for documenting the killing of chickens.

There is a very simple thing that will happen here that will not be about you or me. The Lindens will have guidelines for these viewers. The Emerald will not meet them, either because they will to remove some of their griefing features, or because their griefing past will disqualify them.

They will try to blackmail and intimidate Linden Lab into accepting them by pledging to crash sims until they do. Hopefully the Lindens will call the FBI sooner rather than later then.

    • Itazura Radio says:

Actually because it comes from you is exactly why it gets discredited. Hear me out on this….

It’s not because you are wrong. Let’s make that clear because you aren’t. It’s because a lot of people see it’s from you and they instantly tune out. They stop caring. At least part of the reason for that is based on their past experience. There are plenty of cases where they’ve seen if someone disagrees with you they are called stupid or ignorant because of the simple fact they disagree with you. That tends to turn potential friends into enemies, or at least makes them apathetic. That probably includes some Lindens too. That doesn’t discredit them. It just makes them normal. They go, “Oh, Prok is on the warpath again about something or other” and giggle at how mad you get and never appreciate the context or importance of what you are saying or how it affects them as well. And the Woodbury folks take full advantage of that.

I think the less you make this about you personally the better or else it will get tucked away in the “he said/she said” drama pigeon hole and forgotten just like it has been. The point needs to be not about what they are doing to you personally, but what they are really doing to everybody collectively. That’s the message that keeps getting lost and ignored when the focus seems to be about your own victimization. My advice is to concentrate less on that because it turns people off to hearing the rest of what you are saying. They don’t care about you. They care about themselves. So make it personal to them. That’s the only way you are going to get them to see the viewer they say they love so much is a very big part of all the things they also say they hate. Until that happens they will just keep going, “OOooo… Boobies!” and telling their friends to download it.

      Shut up Prokofy.

    • TiredOfCrazyCatLady says:

Batshit insane, as usual, Crazy Cat Lady.

  4. Crap Mariner says:

I describe it as he said/she said because the original cause of the feud is so lost in the tangle that’s built up over the years.

The killing of the sion chickens, that was uncalled for. That’s just jackassery.

Lindens themselves will never call in law enforcement. Since Mitch Kapor/Lotus123 Linden says their business model/revenue stream is like a hosting company, hosting companies never actively seek out law enforcement to clean out the stables. Instead, they drag their feet and demand warrants before taking action.

  5. radar says:

I agree with Crap that I don’t see LL calling in the FBI. They’ve having brown bags with these same people to ask how 3rd party viewers should be handled, for crying out loud. It’s ridiculous.

LL may be smarter about this than I think, and they may actually be working on making this problem go away, but they are so slow about it, and they’re so outwardly clueless, that I tend very much to doubt that whatsoever.

  6. Crap Mariner says:

Looking over LL’s plans for XStreet listings, they will unquestionably profit from content listed there.

Bye bye, Safe Harbor Exception claims.

They just handed the ball to Stroker, etc. and laid down on the field.

  7. radarm says:

I agree with Itazura, I don’t think the changes there are about profit. I think they actually are intentioned to screen the wave of junk being dumped into SL and rendering the search useless. Whether it will WORK or is implemented right or not is another matter.

  8. Crap Mariner says:

    Screening out junk, important.

But their methods demonstrate their motivations.

And leaves them without defense when content theft lawsuits gain steam.

    -ls/cm

  9. radarm says:

Their methods are the only possible way to screen out junk content without resorting to judgement calls about the quality of any particular content itself – hit the junk peddlers where they live: the pocket.

I don’t know if it leaves them without defense or not, but if you wanted to motivate people to only clutter up xstreet with stuff that sells and is popular, the money angle is probably the best one.

BTW, I put a link to this R&C ep in my profile and even added a picks tab with the title “Emerald Bad” and a link to it. Not that it will matter, because no one looks at my profile, and even if they do, they won’t care anyway. But at least I can say I’m trying as hard as I can to help publicly call these bozos out.

  12. Dale Innis says:

I are confused; who is this person, and what panel discussion is Crap referring to?

  13. Ummm where do I begin?

Just because someone likes internet memes or LOLCATS doesn’t mean they organize greifing attacks. Please substantiate claims with evidence.

Woodbury doesn’t develop the Emerald Client and most people here don’t use it, Tizzers included.

Your parallel between someone who annoys people on video games to leaders of the KKK is frankly bullshit. False analogy and poisoning the well arguments.

Emerald doesn’t have the ability to copybot.

I use Emerald and hang out at Woodbury and somehow manage to stay within TOS. My 2 accounts (this and Jim Schack) are both over 3 years old and I have never been banned or suspended. Most everyone at Woodbury has never been banned. True Tizzers was banned, but it was for disclosure not for griefing.

Prokofy is mentality defective. She’s inconsistent in her conspiracy theories, resorts to a soviet version of Godwin’s Law at every opportunity, considers disagreement ‘griefing’, considers someone she doesn’t like in the same sim as her ‘griefing’, she boasts about her favorite logical fallacy (guilt by association) is a valid argument [i.e. Woodbury likes memes, giefers like memes, therefore anyone who likes memes are giefers], falsely assumes I am Jim Korpov because we have the same first name, thought the PN was my personal army (until she realized it conflicted not just with reality, but her own paranoid delusion) …etc. Prok’s blog is the Coast to Coast AM of Second Life and you sound just like her.

I wish you would at least look into what you are talking about before you open your mouth about it. You don’t see me arguing the points of string theory when i know so little about it. Extraordinary claims may require extraordinary evidence, but Prokofy and yourself don’t even provide anecdotal evidence for your claims. It’s sad.

  14. Atra Lupis says:

Oh for the love of god …

Emerald does NOT allow you to make your avatar invisible, steal others content or invade a person’s “privacy”.

Seeing someone’s online ststus? Commonly availible LSL scripts already do this and they are not against the ToS. The limiter that prevents the normal client from seeing if someone is online or not is pretty much client side. The client asks the server to see if someone has denied said permission using their own client interface.

All Emerald did there was remove the request code: Something the LSL Online Indicator scripts omit as well.

Seeing someone defriend you? Nothing more than an added call in the client to display what the server is already sending to the client.

    The rest?

Download the client and test the features yourself then form your own opinion. Don’t take the word of some blogger who thinks reading an outdated and incomplete feature list and explanation is “research”.

    • Stuart Warf says:

“Download the client and test the features yourself then form your own opinion.”

Actually, Emerald does have the ability to steal others content if you look at it in a different light. The simple fact is you could download an XML file that contains stolen content (an example could be somebodies blog) and import it into Second Life using the Emerald viewers import/export feature.

Also, a lot of the features in CryoLife and NeilLife have been taken from the Emerald viewer source code with features that shouldn’t be there. The only purpose of OTR encryption is to hide conversations from the Lab, which would never be inspected unless an Abuse Report was sent.

    • radarm says:

We did make up our own minds, a lot of it based on the people who wrote the code. Sorry, but they’re a band of griefers and permabanneds.

Thanks for assuming we just took some other people’s word for it instead of making up our own minds, but you’re welcome to be wrong too. And yay. You are.
